Where is it? The Piedmont region is in northwestern Italy and sits at the base of the Italian Alps. It borders Switzerland to the northeast and France to the west.

AIRPORTS

Turin-Caselle Airport (TRN) is 16km from the city of Turin.

What is the region famous for?

It’s alpine landscape. Piedmont is surrounded on three sides by the Alps and the geography of Piedmont is over 40% mountainous, along with lots of hills and plains. Piedmont offers a unique and beautiful setting for weddings thanks to it’s epic scenery including the valleys and hills of Langhe-Roero-Monferrato, a UNESCO World Heritage site. In terms of food (as isn’t it always about food) the region is well know for fine wines such as Barolo and specialities like the white truffles of Alba and the seriously good Giandiuotti of Turin. YUM!

Piedmont is also well-known for its capital city Turin which is rich in culture and history and known for its numerous art galleries, restaurants, churches, palaces, opera houses, piazzas, parks, gardens, theatres, museums and more. Turin is famous for its Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Neo-classical, and Art Nouveau architecture. Many of Turin's public squares, castles, gardens and elegant palazzi such as the Palazzo Madama, were built between the 16th and 18th centuries.

Why get married here?

  1. The landscape. The scenery is seriously impressive and also offers lots of variety, from alpine views, to lakes, vineyards, castles and parks. It’s similar to Tuscany in many ways.

  2. Easy to get to. With the international airport in Turin it’s easy for guests to get to. Many of the venues in Piedmont are not too far away from Turin airport (many great options within 30 mins), making it easy for guests and also giving them an opportunity to explore the city either side of the wedding celebrations.

  3. Legal marriage. Turin offers lots of different options for getting legally married and you can do so at a number of locations.

  4. Good value. Piedmont venues in the hilltop villages are often well priced and offer good value for money.

What style of weddings happen in this region?

You can choose to get married in a beautiful palace in the historical centre of Turin, Asti or Alessandria, in a romantic farmhouse or villa in the green Piedmont countryside, or go for an unusual wedding in a winery of the Langhe, production area of the famous Barolo wine.

Know before you book

This region is fantastic for weddings. Great food, great transport, famous regional specialities (for a reason!), a calm and kind culture with stunning architecture - it’s really worth considering for your wedding.

We’d advise checking direct flights to Turin from your local airport as they can be less frequent and also the weather forecast!
