Why you need a content creator at your wedding

Has someone told you social media is huge right now…! Real, raw, BTS footage from your wedding day is not just having a moment, it’s here to stay! Queue the rise of the content creator.

Before you skip on as you are no ‘influencer’ - STOP! Content creators are not just for those who have 100,000 followers; they give us ‘regular’ people the opportunity to have every moment of your best day documented through the eyes of guests, capturing the moments between moments; all whilst working alongside a photographer and videographer to ensure you have all angles of your day locked down.

We caught up with the queens of content, Alex of Content for Brides and Janna of Candid Content PT to hear why you should book this new-age supplier for your celebration.

Q: What is a content creator?

Usually with expertise in video production and photography, content creators often use an iPhone with a focus on delivering social-first optimized content. When it comes to content creators for your wedding, you’re essentially hiring someone often with a professional background in social-first content creation and an eye for storytelling, who will capture your day with their iPhone and deliver all of the raw video content to you with short-form edits ready for you to have shareable memories within 24 hours and sometimes even the same day.

Q. Why do you think content creators work so well at destination weddings?

Wedding content creation works amazingly for destination weddings in particular, because of the wider variety this new and upcoming vendor has to offer. With most sharing access to the memories within 24 hours of the wedding itself, the bride and groom are able to relive the behind the scene moments the very next day, securing an incomparable perspective of the moments that mattered most, and having the ability to share with friends and family who were unable to attend the wedding.

Q: Why are content creators not just for influencers?

There’s sometimes a perception that it’s only valuable to have a content creator at your wedding if you have a large social following and that the content created is solely based on social-media trends. The reality is, we now live in an era where the way we all consume media is different from even 5 years ago. This is exactly what having a content creator at your wedding enables you to do: have instant, shareable content that enables you to reminisce and connect with loved ones from the very next day—regardless if you have an Instagram account or not. We’ve been lucky enough at Content For Brides to work with influencers and celebrities for their weddings, but we also have a lot of brides who simply want the peace of mind that every moment is captured without even considering how that is portrayed on social media.

Q: What is the process when booking a content creator?

At Content For Brides, once you’ve inquired via our website with your wedding day information, we’ll be in touch with our brochure to give you more of a detailed view of our packages and services for you to consider with the option to connect on a virtual consultation call with Alex, the Founder, where you can ask questions and run through specifics. To book, you’ll be sent a contract and an invoice for a deposit payment, and then once you’re at 12 weeks prior to your wedding date, you’ll be sent your final invoice along with a questionnaire form to collate all final details. You’ll then be introduced to your allocated content creator (we’re a team of 4!) where you can connect on a final call or in-person meeting if London-based to run through a content plan ahead of the day.

Following your wedding day, all raw content and final edits will be shared with you either via a shared album if an iPhone user or via a Dropbox link.

Q. What should couples look out for when choosing the right content creator?

I think choosing the right wedding content creator for you will ultimately come down to who's approach, essence, and overall aesthetic feels most in alignment with yourself and your vision. Begin to ask yourself what your main reason is for wanting a content creator - whether it is for social media, for the value of visual storytelling, or a modern look & feel. As your chosen content creator will be alongside you to document your love story for most of the day, it is important to consider your personal connection to them, and how they can harmoniously and seamlessly blend into your day of celebration.

Q: What will a content creator bring to your wedding that a photographer/videographer might not?

Like any photographer and videographer, the content creator will bring an eye for capturing fleeting moments as they unfold throughout your wedding day. From subtle looks to gentle hand brushes, it’s this art of noticing that brings a team of creative brains together—just using different mediums. How the service differs, however, is that a content creator will strive to capture even more of an authentic view of your wedding day, often referred to as more of a behind-the-scenes perspective or seeing the day through the lens of a guest. A key difference also is in the deliverables; a content creator will share all of the raw, unedited videos with you along with final edits usually within a few days. The edits are purposefully optimized for mobile sharing and social platform specifications, enabling you to relive key moments instantly with loved ones and often helping to bridge the gap when anticipating photographer and videographer deliverables.

“If you want peace of mind that your guests can stay phone-free and unplugged without compromising on content coverage, and if you want to bring additional creative minds to your day to enable the perfect suite of outputs across all mediums—it’s a no-brainer.”

Q: How do content creators work with photographers and videographers on the wedding day?

A good team of photographers, videographers, and content creators will all have the same shared value when it comes to a wedding day—you. At Content For Brides boundaries are set from the get-go, and there’s a clear plan for how the dynamic would work, often running through things like positioning during the ceremony or lenses being used so we can be conscious of wide lenses or cameras on tripods. You’ll often see us being two steps behind the photo and video team, even if that means we get them in the shot.

We mostly focus on capturing video content exclusively and only a small volume of still images as and when the opportunity arises on the day. We never want to replicate stills that photographers have perfectly articulated, so you won’t find us snapping away over their shoulder for stills.

There often can be an exclusivity clause in photographers' contracts, so we’re always super conscious of ensuring each role is clear and communicating the differences in deliverables to the couple. For anyone wedding planning, it’s always a good idea to check exclusivity clauses and be clear on the expected deliverables. If you have a particular want and need for a content creator to capture iPhone images, just ensure this is a conversation with all parties in advance of your day for total smooth sailing.
