2022 is set to be a huge year for weddings, with more than ever before. So many of you have held out for your wedding either because of postponement or trying to wait out the covid wave and the time is just around the corner.

In 2022 we expect to see extensions and exaggerations of trends from 2020/2021 and big new exciting ways couples are celebrating. The go-big-or-go-home attitude that we saw in 2021 is ramping up even more, as many weddings push ahead with smaller guest lists and couples really want to spoil their loved ones with a full-on and immersive wedding weekend.

We predict that there will be a renewed focus on using locally sourced produce and decorations to support local artisans and creatives and be kinder to the environment. Styling will be even more authentic, unique and meaningful.

Let’s take a look at our edit of the most important wedding trends for 2022.

Abstract + unique stationery

Think elaborate, abstract, personalised artwork for your wedding, in the form of stationery. We’ll see hand drawn illustrations, personalised wedding crests and monograms by talented designers that sweep through the styling of your entire wedding celebration.

Experiential

This isn’t just a wedding, it’s an experience - a unique escape from the real world. There’s a deeper understanding of how every element comes together to create this overall wedding experience and couples will be investing more energy and budget on important one-of-a-kind aspects for guests to experience. Think performers, food, decor and more across all there senses.

Authentic + local

Authentic local produce and locally sourced decorations will be big this year. Think handmade pottery and locally died linen. Italy is full of amazingly skilled creatives and local suppliers. Couples are becoming increasingly conscious of the environmental impact of transporting things in from further afield. Keeping things local is good for those smaller and more authentic Italian businesses, good for the planet and just so, so chic.

Modern bridal

The popularity of modern and alternative bridal will continue to rise with brides choosing minis, jumpsuits and separates to walk down the aisle.

For the more traditional bride, soft draping, effortless and romantic gowns will be a sought after look, like this Alena Leena Bridal gown.

Three day affairs

Three day events have become the absolute norm now, especially with Covid thrown into the mix. Couples and guests really want to make the most of guests being together while they can, soaking it all in and embracing the experience. Think a welcome aperitivo with a glam dress code or a post-wedding pool party or brunch.

Creative tablescapes

We will see some really creative tablescapes in 2022 where truly anything goes! Bright and interesting colour combinations, patterned table cloths and big fluffy delicate flowers and flowers clouds. We predict lots of hydrangeas and gypsophila.

More intimate weddings and smaller guest lists will remain popular in 2022, allowing couples to go all out with their table decor and the dining experience for their guests.

Contrasting colours

We will see more bold and contrasting colour combinations in 2022. Think bright reds, oranges and hydrangea blue paired with more neutral shades. Statement colours and statement flowers to really make an impact. Thonet chair will also really be making a come back next year. No longer viewed as old fashioned and stuffy and instead the height of style and simple elegance.

Rent + reuse

A shift in focus moves to planning weddings with less waste. Things like renting or buying second hand clothing will become more mainstream with boutiques such as The Fall launching their new (Re)Cycle scheme. Using potted plants and dried flowers which can be kept or gifted to guests or locally grown blooms to cut down the environmental impact. Using local suppliers with less travel. As well as more couples using rented decorations for their big day.
