Savannah + Kristian’s ‘old Italy’ wedding

After falling in love with Italy on a holiday, which ended up being their engagement trip, Savannah and Kristian gathered their friends and family from Norway and America for their three days of September celebrations at The Lazy Olive, including a welcome dinner, their wedding day and a brunch. Planning from their home in Oslo wasn’t always easy, with the couple overspending on budget (with no regrets, thankfully!) - Savannah recommends any couple to use a wedding planner.

From a casual welcome party to relax their guests into their wedding events, to their wedding meal overlooking far-reaching countryside, this wedding is as wholesome as Italian weddings come.

The Dating

“We met 8 years ago, in Northern Norway where we both worked.  And Kristian proposed to me in September of 2022 in Rome. We were on a trip in Italy together; I had absolutely no idea! :) ”

“I would highly recommend hosting a welcome party or dinner the night before! Doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive, but it’s such a fun way for your friends and family to get together before the big day and break the ice!”

Why did you choose Italy?

“I have lived in Italy before, but this was our engagement was our first trip to Italy together. We fell in love with Florence and Tuscany especially! The people, the wine, and the food were amazing! Norway doesn’t always have the best weather and being American,  we thought it could be fun for my family and friends to travel to Italy! It has the vibe and energy we were looking for and we knew both the Americans and Norwegians would be excited! (Just a bonus that the weather is usually amazing too!)”

The venue

“We were looking for a venue that housed a large number of guest, and had surrounding villas near by for others to stay at. We wanted to spend as much time as possible with our friends and family, so staying close by or at the venue would provide that! We wanted to get married in Tuscany for sure, as we loved its intimacy! When I came across The Lazy Olive online, I truly fell in love.. and after speaking to Daniela and Malcom (owners) we knew this was the place we had to get married. Once we toured TLO in person, we fell even more in love! From the homemade food from their garden, to the views,  to the energy, it was our dream venue! It had everything we were looking for!”

“I highly recommend using a wedding planner! Rebecca from TLO was our wedding planner, and she was incredible! She made everything so much easier for us, in our planning process.”

Did anything go wrong?

“To be honest not really, we had a pretty open mind about everything! We also had great help from the TLO, so that helped a lot! Managing where everyone was going to stay was a bit tricky, but in the end it worked out perfectly!”

Top piece of advice

“My top piece of advice would definitely be to have an open mind about everything! To go with the flow, and to understand that not everything has to be perfect! Planning should be fun and exciting not stressful! Take in every moment because it’s so true what everyone says, it goes by way too fast!!

I would also highly recommend hosting a welcome party or dinner the night before! Doesn’t have to be fancy or expensive, but it’s such a fun way for your friends and family to get together before the big day and break the ice!”

Stand out supplier

“The Lazy Olive by far! We used them for mostly everything. Food, flowers, decorations, and it was the best decision ever! Made it so easy for us, and our planning process. The food was truly unbelievable!  They also organized all the flowers and set ups for the welcome dinner and brunch. It was perfect!”

Money spent

“We definitely went over our budget, but it’s something we don’t regret at all! We decided to skip the fancy deserts and party favors and spend a little more money on food and alcohol, (which everyone loves) welcome dinner night before, open bar at the wedding, and brunch day after! We also splurged on a band for the welcome dinner and wedding and that was an absolute highlight of our wedding weekend!”

Stand out moment

“It’s hard to pick just one moment, because the day in our eyes was absolutely perfect. Just being together with all of our favorite people in such a stunning location was probably our favorite memory! Our dog crashing our wedding ceremony was pretty memorable too!”
