It all started with a right swipe on Tinder in 2017… a modern-day love story that quickly blossomed into something beautiful for Australian couple Jakita and Tim. After getting engaged in 2022, they decided to break away from their original plan of a ‘farm-style’ wedding in Byron Bay and instead, ditched the norms, cut the guest list and headed to Italy for a deeply intimate ceremony with only Jakita’s parents by their side.

“Embrace the Intimacy: One of the greatest advantages of an elopement or micro wedding is the ability to focus on each other without the pressures of a large guest list.” ~ Emanuele, Photographer

Tell us your love story:

“We met surprisingly on tinder back in 2017. I wasn’t looking for anything serious when I was on the app, but Tim was persistent (lol) - he quickly became one of my favourite people and it was like I had known him forever. We got engaged in 2022 in the Gold Coast Hinterland.”

Why Italy?

“We had both actually never been to Italy before, so it was a little left-field. We had tentatively booked a farm vibe venue in Byron Bay, New South Wales, followed by a beach front venue on a cliff overhanging the beach for the reception, but it was so expensive, and we wanted to travel.”

Stand out moment?

“The standout moment of the day was undoubtedly the ceremony. The intensity of the gazes, the tears, and the looks from Jakita’s parents as they watched their daughter, along with the exchange of vows, created a deeply touching experience.”

Stand out vendor?

“Our Celebrant, Fabio. His love and passion for what he does radiates through him and it is so infectious; he has a presence and persona that makes you think you have known him forever.  He was by far the easiest decision we made when it came to choosing suppliers.  There is no one else that we would have trusted to tell the love story that is us, and to let us re-live it again.”

How did you make the decision about your venue?

“After scanning instagram for hours, I came across Locanda in Tuscany and it just seemed too right for us. It was the perfect vibe and everything we were looking for in Aus but ultimately couldn’t find - a farm vibe with stunning fields and ‘middle of nowhere’ sort of vibe.”

Did anything go wrong when planning?

“Not at all! We found all of our suppliers through instagram and they were all such a vibe. They suited our personalities so much and we honestly couldn’t have found more perfect suppliers.”

How much did you spend?

“Probably around AUD $17k - but this excludes the money we spent travelling Europe for 3-weeks before and after the wedding which was incredible!”

How would you describe the style of the day?

“The style of the wedding day was undoubtedly intimate, minimal, and elegant. Jakita and Tim chose to eliminate the superfluous and focus on the couple, the ceremony, the two people present, and the landscape of the location, which is why they added absolutely nothing in terms of decorations.”

Any advice for future couples?

“Approach Everything with a Light Heart and Positive Attitude. Remember, there are no strict schedules or constraints on your special day. Embrace the freedom to change plans at the last moment if it feels right. This flexibility is a huge advantage and can greatly enhance your experience, making the day even more enjoyable and memorable.”
