I drove to Italy last week. Here’s how it went.
Last week (28.05.21), I drove to Italy with my husband and 3 year old son. I’d been quite nervous about the trip and all the aspects required but it was fine. Since travelling it’s become a little harder to get in to France but hope that things become easier again and this is useful if you’re thinking of driving to Italy this summer.
Before leaving we completed the EU Digital Pass Locator online form that’s a requirement to enter Italy.
First up, to enter France at that time, we had to show a negative PCR test, taken within 48 hours. We’s also completed the forms required to enter France (a declaration stating you don’t have symptoms and will abide by the rules) but these weren’t checked.
We took the ferry from Dover to Calais. At Dover, our passports and PCR test documents were checked. The police also asked us while we were all travelling to France.
When we landed, we drove straight through France down to Mont Blanc (9 hours) so that we entered Italy within 48 hours of having a PCR test, which is Italy’s requirement of entry. You can opt for a 10 day quarantine instead.
When we got to Mont Blanc we thought we might have passports, PCR tests and more entry forms checked but they weren’t. We drove through the tunnel and like magic, we were in Italy.
Tip - check the Mont Blanc Tunnel is open before you travel.
