Common issues couples are facing right now in the planning process

We’ve been hearing a lot about the challenges couples are facing during their wedding planning, so we asked future brides to share their thoughts. The response? A common theme emerged- planning a wedding in Italy definitely isn't for the faint-hearted! From navigating legalities to language barriers, the journey can be tricky, but trust us when we say it’s so worth it!

"Being ghosted by vendors”

This is probably THE most common issue we hear. Whether it’s bad timing, ie. in the midst of wedding season, trying to negotiate on costs or vendors just simply not having availability, we really have heard it all when it comes to being ‘ghosted’. But don’t let it dishearten you, most times there’s a reason but even so: aren’t you glad you found out before booking them?

"Communication & the overall language barrier"

We get it- sometimes the communication isn’t all there. Planning a wedding in Italy can bring its own set of challenges, especially if you don’t speak the language. That’s why having a planner who knows the area, the culture, and speaks Italian (or has trusted contacts who do) is so key. They’ll bridge the gap, making the whole process smoother and, in most cases, stress-free!

"Vendors not being clear on pricing"

Another tricky hurdle to navigate when planning a wedding in Italy, especially with the language barrier, is understanding pricing- particularly those pesky hidden costs and the need to add VAT to almost everything! It can feel overwhelming but don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. At La Lista, we believe in complete transparency when it comes to pricing. That’s why we’ve listed our trusted vendors and venue prices on our directory, giving you a clear idea of costs upfront, long before you even make an enquiry. This way, you can avoid any surprises and plan with confidence!

“Not being able to visit Italy before our wedding"

We speak to so many couples who not only don’t get the chance to visit Italy during the planning process but have never even been there! With many of our couples coming from the UK, US, and Australia, we completely understand that it’s not always possible to make a pre-wedding trip to fully immerse yourself in the Italian wedding world.

The solution? Again, working with a planner who knows the area inside and out! A trusted planner can offer virtual tours, share detailed photos and provide invaluable local insight to ensure your vision comes to life, even from afar. With the right support, you can still feel completely connected to your Italian wedding destination, no matter where you are.

"The legalities, why is it so tough?!"

Navigating Italy’s legal requirements for weddings can be daunting, especially if you're not familiar with local regulations. From paperwork to residency requirements, the process can be complicated. Whether you’re planning on having a Catholic ceremony or civil ceremony, we can help you understand the legal steps involved and guide you through the process to ensure your wedding is legally recognised. "Guests dropping out last minute"

This one can sting a bit. For you, as the couple, your wedding is the most important day of your lives, but for many guests it’s one event among many. From life commitments to travel logistics to last-minute changes, these can all lead to unexpected cancellations. Try not to take it personally and remember, no matter who’s there or not, your wedding day will still be the BEST day of your lives. Focus on what you can control, and let go of the rest!

What better way to get tips and share your experience than with other couples on the same planning journey than you? That’s why we created ‘The Community’ - a private space you can connect with other couples who are planning their Italian weddings. Head in there now!
