Planning the best wedding ever: everything you need to know about bridal

The Fall top pick: Celina Mini by Jessica Bennett

We caught up with the lovely Annelise from The Fall to get the inside scoop on all things bridal; how to find your dress, how to travel with it to a destination wedding and her current top picks of bridal gowns and accessories.

Despite having only set up The Fall just over two years ago, Annelise really knows her stuff when it comes to bridal fashion. She’s obsessed with the quality of dresses, the shapes and the materials used. She intuitively knows what works for each individual that comes through her doors and her main aim is to make the shopping experience super-relaxed and enjoyable for her brides-to-be.

So let’s get stuck in…

What are your top tips for brides shopping for their dress?
1. Shop around online

Spend some time looking at designers on Instagram, real wedding blogs, supplier showcases and pick your styles.

2. Find the stockists

And once you’ve found them, get in touch! See if you get a good feeling from them and that the store offers the kind of experience that will make you feel as comfortable as possible.

3. Shortlist your shops

It’s really important to choose the right store. Make sure you feel a connection with the brand and the team before you get there. Going to the wrong store can lead to a bad experience that can affect the rest of your dress shopping experience.

We recommend going to just 3 stores max. You can usually try between 5-8 styles in one visit, depending on the store.

4. Make sure you feel good

It literally doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks and if you don’t follow your heart, you won’t be comfortable on the day. And remember, most dresses have a minimum of 6 months’ lead time. Off-the-peg solutions are ready to wear but you should budget time for some alterations.

What's your advice on travelling with your dress to a destination wedding?

Our travel recommendations vary depending on the type of plane that you're flying with:

Budget airlines

If you're flying with a budget airline we recommend booking an extra seat for your dress bag as the airlines tend to be limited in terms of storage space.

Larger airlines or long haul

With larger airlines and flights outside of Europe the planes tend to be larger, and therefore more space is available. Overhead luggage bins can be used if you lay your dress bag on top of any luggage inside. Airline staff may also let you hang your dress bag in their personal wardrobe space or in the Business and First Class wardrobes.

NEVER IN YOUR SUITCASE!

Never check your dress in your luggage. God forbid it gets lost. It's a worst case scenario but we have seen it happen!

Always check with your airline

The best thing to do is to check in with your specific air carrier to see what their individual recommendations and capacities are for travelling with your gown. This way there will be no suprises on the day you travel.
