What's the best month to get married in Italy?

So many contributing factors come into play when considering the month of your wedding. How long are you prepared to wait to put a ring on it? Are your sights set on a supplier or venue which only has availability during certain months? Seasonal price rises will affect everything from venues (not all increase their prices during peak season), guest accommodation and flights. You will need to consider whether everyone will be up for paying the inflated prices, including yourselves. Challenges on dates around school holidays, whether your guests have children, are pregnant, work commitments. Clearly you can’t satisfy everyone before you have tied down a date, but guests make the wedding, so be sure to have your nearest and dearests there.

Now let’s talk weather! There’s no way of guaranteeing the weather, whichever country you are in. Yes, Italy can bring blue skies, sun-filled days, setting into balmy evenings as the grilli (crickets) chirp. But no matter how many rain dances you do, the heavens can open on an August day and your wedding suddenly changes into a very different look. It is well-worth considering your guests when opting for a wedding in the typically hottest months of the Italian summer. Do you have older guests who may struggle with the heat, children, or just a family member with a sweat gland on overdrive!

April

Think bursts of warm spring sunshine, some April showers. Looking at the landscape you might still see some bare trees from the winter months and sparse empty vineyards.

Bonus: A cheaper month as April is not peak season.

May

More showers, sun and inter-changeable weather. But by the end of the month temperatures are reaching the late 20c’s. May brings the end of the off-peak prices.

June

Hello to the Italian sun and with it the heat! June sees temperatures hit the late 20’s into 30’s. Evenings are warmer meaning those fairy lit, magical reception meals are doable in lighter clothing.

Lush and green landscapes make for stunning backdrops and dreamy vineyard walks as newly husband and wife (with your photographer of course!) And we’re now in peak prices.

July & August

Get ready for the heat during these peak summer months. With the heat comes the thunderstorms…be sure to have your wet weather plan nailed! The scenery is dry. Air con really is a must and be prepared for other heat issues for your guests i.e. does your ceremony have shelter from the heat, how long will your guests be standing in the sun during the aperitif and is there any respite from this. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate!

September

The end of the summer brings cooler days and nights. Daytime temperatures of under 30c, but with it storms. The land is still dry, but vineyards are full and bursting, ready to be harvested.

October

As autumn draws near, the temperature is cooler, reaching mid to late 20’s again. Nights are cooler and guests might need a prompt with how best to dress transitioning from day to night.
