But what if it rains? Tents for wet weather

A subject that gets so little coverage, probably because no one wants to talk about it. The reality is that it often rains in the summer in Italy and it’s worth facing this fact head on. Why? You should consider this as part of your venue hunt upfront – having a good permanent wet weather option is a real bonus from a venue and something worth hunting out. It’s also an insurance policy for your entire wedding spend. No wet weather option on a rainy day = no wedding.

So what are the options? Really it comes down to two things – a suitable room or permanent structure at your venue  or renting a marquee (or tent as we call them in the Italian wedding world).

In order of costs, tent options are:
1. Peaked white / champagne colour

2. Peaked clear

3. Clear
4. Stretch Tent
4. Greenhouse

Tent costs depend on the shape, structure, size and mounting dates of your event. Compared to other countries, tent prices are actually very good.
Our two favourite tent hacks:
  1. Round tables take up less space in a tent – so if you want to get away with spending less, have a plan B table plan using round tables, a smaller tent and therefore smaller spend

  2. Consider mounting your tent in a space that you’re not using for your dry weather plan. If the weather turns out to be good, you’ve not disturbed your ideal dry weather set up (but yes you’ve wasted money on a tent – at this point you won’t care!)
