5 reasons to have a winter wedding in Italy

Picture this: candlelight, a roaring fire from an impressive ornate fireplace, guests seated amongst rich colours and textures. This is a cosy Italian winter wedding and it’s not just the hygge-vibes attracting more and more couples to wed out of season in Italy.

Peak season in Italy is classically from May - September, with the months of April and October skimming in and out of peak season prices. For a winter wedding, we are talking about November through to early April; bearing in mind that some venues close December into January to enjoy a well-deserved break. Italian venues really can deliver spectacularly all year round, with the joy of a winter wedding being to fully appreciate the outstanding architecture and internal features which tend to get missed by the outdoor summer celebrations. This is one way to put a unique stamp on a destination wedding with an unforgettable wedding backdrop.

Food

You are never going to be disappointed with the food in Italy, but the winter produce really can wow on a menu! Think hearty, decadence paired with rich warming wines. Not forgetting the wealth of activities you and your guests can enjoy pre or post wedding, from truffle hunting to hikes to take in the changing colours of the landscape.

Costs

Winter weddings are becoming more desirable thanks to off-peak pricing offered by the venue and equally by most suppliers. Plus, don’t forget with fewer weddings hosted during this period you will be less pressured to pick a date. Professionalism from suppliers should be expected at every wedding they work at, but the advantage of a winter wedding is they have fewer couples competing for their attention, so you should enjoy a more energised team.

Guests will also enjoy a reduction in their travel and accommodation costs, with flights being cheaper as well as car hire. The flip of this is that airlines may well put on fewer flights during this season, so it is worth checking this before sending out save the dates.

Atmosphere

Italy as a whole will be far quieter and less touristy during these months, but with fewer visitors some businesses close, so it is absolutely worth checking that restaurants and hotels you may wish to visit after your wedding remain open. Exploring the regions can be more enjoyable for your guests during these cooler months, and particularly if you have older family members who might struggle with the intense summer heat.

Styling

We love seeing Italian weddings through different angles and a winter wedding is certainly a different way to showcase this incredible country whilst crafting a unique celebration. Styling could embrace warmth with rich floral displays, using seasonal flowers and dressing the venue interior with cosy textures and atmospheric lighting. It could look seriously stunning!
