The Dating
“Our story kicked off in Austin during our college years, although we were at different schools. A mutual friend thought I'd be perfect for a voiceover in Jason’s candle commercial project. That’s right, a candle commercial brought us together! We hung out in the same circles for a while but eventually lost touch after graduation. Then, in a twist of fate, that same friend brought us back together years later in Houston. From there, we went from friends to inseparable.”
The Engagement
“April 2020 found us in Houston, laying low like the rest of the world. On a whim, we took a trip to Galveston – our happy place for some fresh air and good seafood. And then, out of the blue, Jason popped the question, calling me his “quarantine queen.” I was totally taken aback but, of course, I said YES!”
The Styling
“I really wanted to wear my sunglasses, even though people kept telling me not to. I am so glad I did! I loved that little extra touch. And throughout the planning - I didn’t put much thought into a veil but on the day of - I did feel like something was missing. I purchased a white beaded head wrap to attend the Beyonce’ Renaissance Tour that summer and decided to repurpose it for the day! And it worked! ”
“It was late afternoon, the low sun was casting the sky in an orange glow, a soulful gospel beat from Moby echoed in the air. The bride, adorned in a sparkling veil, graced the minimalist ceremony set up with her presence. Her guests, caught up in the rhythm, swayed together grooving with the song. The memory of that moment still gives me goosebumps.” Paola
Why Italy?
“After the whirlwind of moving to Europe in such a tough time, we promised each other to make the most out of this life. Italy was just a short flight away, and it felt right. Our scouting trip led us to Santa Maria de Castellabate – a little slice of heaven where we knew we had to tie the knot.”
“We did spend way more than we intended. Treat your budget like a sacred thing. Protecting it is important.”
The Standout Moment?
“Walking down the aisle, I had them play a song that got me through the pandemic – and I made everyone dance to it! It was a hit. Another moment I’ll cherish forever was stealing away with Jason right after the ceremony, just soaking in that newlywed glow. ”

“Get someone to help you plan. Someone UNBIASED but on board with your vision as this can be one of the most daunting tasks you ever take on. Destination weddings take another level of planning that would really require someone with planning experience to help you execute. Very grateful for our wedding planner, Margreet Spriensma. Just remember to factor in planner costs to your overall budget.”
