Best ways to handle stress on your wedding

Wedding planning will likely have moments of stress no matter how well you plan. We all know how stressful certain situations make us feel and which of our own coping mechanisms to depend on. But when it comes to weddings, La Lista knows a thing or two about key moments of stress when planning and on the day - so follow these and go skipping into your wedding feeling confident and in the mood for a good time. That is what it’s all about, right - this moment in your life is magical and deserves to be enjoyed!

After the engagement

Whilst engagements bring that cloud 9 feeling; the aftermath can come with a side of worry! Reality hits and with your heart set on an Italian wedding, meticulous planning is a must. With or without a wedding planner, working out what you want, how much you can spend, plus considering your guests and whether it is feasible for them logistically and financially is all a lot. The feeling that this is actually happening and there is a lot to organise, really can make those stomach butterflies soar.

We cannot say this enough, get prepared from the start. Download the tools from our Shop, honestly they will get you on the right track from the start and give you that 'organised' boost you need at this point. Starting off with a clear idea means you won't make potential costly mistakes along the way! The Wedding Tracker is a must-have for organised souls and those needing a little help with structure.

Guests

Clearly you will want your nearest and dearest there on your day, so check in with them first to see whether an Italian wedding is going to be possible for them.

And the biggest advice we can give when it comes to guests - communication really is key. Don't let your guests start questioning things, give them clear, concise information on everything they will need to know before they even think they need it. Event details, transport, pre and post wedding locations, accommodation, when they'll have food, where they'll have food (a hungry guest is not pretty!), weather predictions for dress-code. And the simplest way to present this is on a wedding website. For more info on what to tell guests, head to this article.

Self-care

You probably won't need much convincing on this one...but take time out to look after yourself. Pampering, exercise, sitting in a dark room not thinking about wedding planning...whatever you need to do to de-stress is worth it. Now is not the time to be feeling so overwhelmed it is impacting your health.

Other ways to help stress-free planning are connecting with communities of like-minded couples going through what you are. Clearly you are not the first person to plan a wedding, but perhaps you are the first to plan an Italian wedding from within your circle. So, come and chat to other Italian wedding couples in our Private Facebook Group. Question, vent, celebrate and feel part of this Italian wedding network.

Our membership, The Club is the best place to find a more intimate community and experts ready to guide and advise you.

'Is my wedding enough' moment

This fear creeps in a few months before the big day. Have you planned enough, ordered enough food, drink, staff. Questioning your choices and worrying whether you need to add more for guests enjoyment. Trust us, it is enough! If you were happy with it before this minor freak out, then it is more than enough - it is going to be spectacular!

If you are following your Wedding Tracker download, then there is no room to miss any thing important. Put your faith in this document to ensure you have everything ticked off.

External pressure

A wedding on the horizon is an exciting time for everyone involved...and occasionally even those not involved like to voice their opinions. Family or friends remiminscing about how they planned their wedding or what they had on the day can be hugely unhelpful and frankly quite draining! 90% of the time this comes from a place of love, but you need to work out your boundaries and what advice is helpful and relevant and which is not. This is an Italian wedding and things are done slightly differently and this can be a good excuse to say no to some of those vitoed suggestions.

Resist the pressure to include elements to make others happy. If you start by setting boundaries with friends and family about how you see them helping this should gently remind them this is your wedding and whilst their imput is important to you, you also need to create this day for yourselves. By giving them a role to focus on might help. Remember, judgement comes from people who don't care about you!
