We love wedding stationery - as one of the first design elements on your wedding planning list, it’s a great opportunity to play with colour and texture to discover what your wedding style is. It needs to set the tone of your day, provide the right information at the right time and expresses you as a couple. Whether you go bold or classic, have fun with it!

We caught up with the wonderful Grania from Ink & Paper Design and Emma from Notes Studio to chat all things wedding stationery - here’s their advice on style, timings and starting from scratch.

Where to start when choosing wedding stationery?

“The two big areas of consideration here are your venue and the time of year you are getting married. The venue will dictate the extent to which you may wish to juxtapose traditional with modern, and the time of year will play a big part in flower availability which is so often the single biggest influence on colours chosen.”

How to select a palette and design?

I recommend sitting down together and working out what is most reflective of you both as a couple. Do you like bold, confident colour pops, or are you drawn to a more muted and neutral palette?

I’m a huge fan of creating a 4-6 shade colour palette and using that as an anchor from which to build a wedding look and feel.” Ink & Paper

Save the Date

“For save the dates we always say the sooner the better! Once your dream venue is booked and that date is locked in let everyone know! These could be printed, but if you’re looking to be more eco friendly we also offer digital e-vites which a lot of our couples love!

Invitation

Your date is then firmly in your guests diaries, giving you time to firm up those all important details required for your main invitations, which we suggest sending out around 6 months prior to your big day.

On the Day

As the final pieces of the puzzle begin to come together we suggest our couples start thinking about their 'on the day' stationery requirements such as menus & table plans around 3 months before the wedding date.” Notes Studio

How to choose stationery which reflects you?

“Your save the dates and invitations are your guests first glimpse into what to expect from your day so naturally you want these to have the wow factor, but our main piece of advice would be don’t overthink it! With so much choice and inspiration around its easy to lose sight of your personal style and get caught up in trends that may not neccessarily represent you as a couple. Be true to yourself and you will find the whole process so much more enjoyable.

If in doubt keep it classic, a neutral palette and timeless design that won’t date is always a winner!” Notes Studio
